Al Werneke Field was dedicated September 7, 2007 after former THS Head Varsity Coach Al Werneke.
Coach Werneke was the first coach in FHSAA history to win back-to-back titles at two different schools. He coached teams to back-to-back state football championships at Glades Central High School (Belle Glade) in 1971 and 1972 and at Titusville High School in 1982 and 1983. He retired from coaching in 1993 after amassing a record of 257 wins, 93 losses and five ties in 33 years as a head coach, which was fourth-best in Florida at the time. He was selected to coach in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) North-South All-Star Game four times, and was the head coach of the winning Florida squad in the 1986 Florida-Georgia All-Star Game. Werneke was inducted into the FACA Hall of Fame in 1994, and named on the FHSAA "The All-Century coaching staff" in 2007. Coach Werneke died in 1997 at the age of 66.
