(WINTER GARDEN) -- Usually a football team has a plethora of growing pains in their inaugural season, but that has not been the case for Ocoee Legacy Charter.
After losing their first regular season game 50-44 to Kissimmee Life Academy, the Eagles have reeled off three consecutive victories, including a 42-20 home win over St. Augustine Beacon of Hope Christian last Friday.
In that game sophomore quarterback Gunnar Ballant, who earned Gridiron Prep of the game honors, tossed a 50 yard touchdown pass to Dillan Hudson in the first quarter. Ballant also tossed a 45 yard touchdown pass to Connor Knecht in the third quarter that put Legacy Charter ahead 35-12 early in the second half.
Eagle fullback Chase Price led the ground game with touchdown runs of 1 and 6 yards in the second quarter. Tim Wright also added an 11 yard rushing score in the fourth quarter, which was the game's last points.
The play of the game came via special teams. After Beacon of Hope Christian running back Vernon Pinkney scored on a 1 yard touchdown run to make the score 21-12 with 56.4 seconds left before halftime, Legacy Charter's Brian Carmean fielded the kickoff, ran to his right, handed the ball to Emmanuel Flanders and he streaked 80 yards for a touchdown that gave the Eagles a 27-12 halftime lead.
This week Legacy Charter will look to extend its winning streak on the road against a 1-2 Bronson squad. Patrick Restuccio, who leads the state of Florida in sacks with 12, will lead the defensive charge this Friday night.
