Linebacker / Punter
BIO
One of THE most accomplished players on Florida's Gridiron!!!

Won a National Champonship at TheU
Won a Super Bowl with his Tampa Bay Bucs
Enshrined in Canton at the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Sapp became known as a ferocious defender with the nimbleness of a gazelle.

It's crazy that TWO of the NFL's preeminent defensive players came from such a close area: Sapp grew up in Plymouth, while former Legend Deacon Jones starred in close by Eatonville many years before Sapp.

Sapp starred at Apopka High under legendary coach Chip Gierke. Playing many sports, Sapp excelled on the gridiron and on the diamond. Sapp possessed a rare athleticism for such a big man.

Sapp dominated his Junior Season at the University of Miami. How many Defensive tackles have you heard finishing as a Heisman finalist. Sapp finished sixth in the voting, with 17 voters giving him their vote for 1st place in the Heisman race. Colorado's Rashann Salaam ultimately won the Heisman after a coveted 2000 yard rushing explosion, but Sapp nonetheless showed he was the nation's best defensive talent, racking up the Lombardi, Bronco Nagurski, unanimous 1st Team Alll-American selections, and the Big East Defensive Player of the Year.

In 2007, the Florida High School Athletic Assocation named Sapp to the 33 man All-Centurty team... as a utlity player! Sapp starred on defense, becoming a 1st Team All-State LB, and also punting fot the Blue Darters.

From the FHSAA website:

Did it all for Apopka, even punting, and was a first-team All-State pick as a LB. Converted to DL at the University of Miami. Earned consensus All-America honors and Bronko Nagurski Tropy as the nation?s top defensive player in 1994. Now in his 13th NFL season, has made Pro Bowl 7 times and was 1999 AP Defensive Player of the Year. Entered 2007 season with 94 sacks.

Sapp entered the NFL draft, forgoing his senior season, and was selected as the 12 pick in the 1995 NFL Draft to the Tampa Bay Bucs.
