Father Lopez Starts As District Favorite
There is no hesitation in Keith Conegia's voice when asked what Father Lopez High School's chances are to improve this year on last season's 7-3 record.
Talk About A 1-man Show, That's Conegia
Lopez still depends heavily on Conegia, however. But it's something Conegia has gotten used to.
''It doesn't get to me, because it was like that during football season, anyway,'' said Conegia, who earned Class AA All-State recognition as a defensive back on Lopez's football team but may be a better receiver. ''Somebody has to step up.''
He has stepped up on both the football field and in the gym. This past football season, Conegia he was the bright spot on a disappointing, 4-5 Lopez team, scoring nearly every way possible.
Conegia scored on a punt return. He scored on a fumble recovery. He scored on a run out of the backfield. And he scored six times on pass receptions among his 18 catches for 316 yards.
