CLASS 3S STATE CHAMPIONSHIP: Lake Wales holds off Daytona Beach Mainland to Win FIRST STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in School History

(FORT LAUDERDALE) -- Lake Wales held on beat Daytona Beach Mainland 32-30 to win the Highlander FIRST football State Championship in school history. QB Trent Grotjan threw for 4 TDS to lead his Lake Wales team that had to stave out a surreal performance by Daytona Beach Mainland star Ajai Harrell who had 195 yards rushing, 139 yards receiving, and 3TD.

The late Mainland RB Avery Atkins ran for over 300 yards in his 2003 State Championship win for the Bucs alongside then-defensive star, now current Bucs Head Coach Travis Roland. Ajai Harrell also had video game numbers in his State Final appearance with over 300 yards combined. Although his Bucs came up short, Harrell's performance will be rated amongst the best in Florida's 333 State Championship games played.
