FHSAA Releases 2020 Classifications

GAINESVILLE -- The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) have released high school Classifications for the current 2020 Season.

Class 8A-Class 5A Teams are now only classified in Regions, rather than districts as in previous years, within their designated class.

CLASS 2A


CLASS 1A




INDEPENDENTS


Teams classified as independent will NOT participate in the FHSAA State Series Playoffs.

Most public schools in South Florida have yet to begin play on the gridiron... Thus, many schools opted out of the state series playoffs and have been designated as Independent, as many of these teams will coagulate to play some playoff format TBA indepdendent of the FHSAA for the 2020 Season.

Two notable teams that decided to be classified as Independent in the State Series playoffs are the 2019 Class 4A State Champs Miami Booker T. Washington and the 2019 Class 8A State Champs Miami Columbus.

Two notable teams that decided to participate in the State Series playoffs, even though they have yet to hit the gridiron for the 2020 season, are defending State Champs Miami Northwestern (3x Defending state Champs) and Defending Class 7A State Champions St. Thomas Aquinas.
